Appearance and Growth
Color change: Juveniles ship with a white body, which transitions into a solid metallic gold as the fish matures (usually around 1 to 1.5 years old).
Fin details: Fins are dark maroon with fluorescent orange or light gold edges.
Size: Adults grow large for clownfish, reaching up to 5 to 6 inches. Females grow larger and develop prominent cheek spines.
Tank Care and Environment
Minimum tank size: 30 gallons for a single fish or established pair. Larger tanks are better as they grow.
Water parameters: Temperature around 78° F, pH between 8.1 and 8.4, and specific gravity at 1.020–1.025.
Sensitivity: Highly sensitive to copper medications. Avoid using a net to move them to prevent snagging their cheek spines
Temperament and Tankmates
Aggression: Highly territorial and aggressive. Their aggression increases with size and age.Compatibility: Keep singly or as a true paired couple. Do not mix with other clownfish species. Choose robust, fast tankmates that can claim separate territories away from the maroon clown. Small or passive fish will get bullied.
Reef safe: Yes, they do not harm corals or invertebrates, though their defense of territory can stress nearby fish.
